Cleaning and my week
There is something incredibly comforting about routine amongst chaos. My work has typically been quite chaotic. It’s the nature of it, and me. However, I have had some wonderful people in my life who have shown me how important and grounding a tidy core is. Every Saturday here has been a deep clean day, floors get mopped, shelves wiped down and organized, desk unexploded, it’s just a great way to decompress from the week prior, and prep for the upcoming. It lets me ensure the systems which organize my brain are well oiled. I think the best example of one of these is the place I hang my keys when you walk in my door. This was a Sunset street house thing and I realized I wasn’t constantly searching for my keys. My brain just has better things to do than focus on where my keys are. These also act as a weekly check in that I’m not accumulating too much clutter. I operate well in simple rooms without a lot of thoughtless items, maybe a few too many plants if anything.
Exciting news, I also got my first two plants and found a fantastic little nursery (shoutout Marriane for the inspiration). I’ve got a reliable source of good dirt too which out here is quite the snag. Only two can come home at a time though because that's a safe occupation amount for my backpack/bike combo.
My house is feeling very much like a bachelor pad. Efficient kitchen, bike in living room, one bench/coffee bar, desk, bed, safe. It works very well to ground me to what I need versus what I want. I have two columns of post-its on my wall in my office with “need” and “want” and items go up on there to be contemplated before procured. It’s nice when you have to consider if you both need something and can get it home on a bike with a backpack. Keep it simple stupid, (that’s addressed to me not you).
Work is going well, I’ve made some incredible connections in the community and continue to be impressed and inspired by the medical staff. Note to self, stop giving my number out to anyone who asks, if anyone has good suggestions of how to dodge this awkward interaction give me a shout. Miss my dog, miss my friends and family, loving life though. This has been my week in Gobabis, I hope you enjoyed this broadcast.
Love,
Yes, I know my mirror is streaky
(It’s been cleaned since then)
