It’s so incredibly wonderful to be bad at something. To fumble clumsily and watch your body slowly learn a new dance, a new rhythm of existing is my favorite part of the learning process. For me, it’s surfing. I’m absolutely terrible, spending most of my time paddling out of the washing machine and sloppily duck diving while others nimbly navigate the waves. My brain shuts off, I simply paddle, I simply exist because there is no other capacity than to fully focus on this new thing (new in that I’ve been surfing on and off for about 5 years). Old muscles protest and my surprising lack of buoyancy is my constant reminder that I am a two legged visitor in this marine world. It humbles me, gives me ways to grow, and the wonderful thing is as long as you don’t behave like an insufferable cunt snaking waves or getting in the way of people who actually know what they are doing and pick uncrowded spots the community will for the most part cheer you on and chuckle knowingly as you drink your 100th gallon of saltwater for the day. That's my only thought for the day, I haven’t been writing much recently but I have some photos to share, I’ll add some little stories under them and I hope y’all are well, I miss ya.
Love,
Fitz
I don’t have much to say on this series, but damn is rest and recreation important for mental health.
I spent about an hour sitting on a culvert taking these, watching storms roll in here has been incredible, the vastness of the landscapes and how rare rain is. Quite a lesson in appreciating a cloud for it’s full worth.
It’s incredible the little details and fun parts of life. I had taken some photos randomly of a rally race that went near my house in Gobabis about 2 months ago of this really hot looking Dakar custom rally vehicle. Get in the truck with friends for a week in Swakup and start chatting about life and it turns out our lovely host for the week is the Navigator for the vehicle which is racing again the weekend we are there! So I snagged my lenses and had some fun. Hope you enjoy. Thanks Johan and Jana!
